75-Ball Bingo and 90-Ball Bingo - What's the difference?

The two most popular versions of our bingo games are 75 and 90-ball bingo. While the two games might sound similar enough, they are significantly different from one another. Interestingly enough, 75-ball bingo is the most popular form of bingo played in the USA, while 90-ball bingo is the more popular version in the UK.

What is 75-Ball Bingo?

A game of 75-ball bingo is played on a single card with a grid containing five numbers across and five numbers down. The word 'BINGO' is usually displayed on top of the card, with one letter per column. The centre square is a free square that is sometimes marked with a star at the very beginning of each game. Each column will have corresponding numbers to them:

  • B - five numbers that range between 1 and 15.

  • I - five numbers that range between 16 and 30.

  • N - four numbers that range between 31 and 45.

  • G - five numbers that range between 45 and 60.

  • O - five numbers that range between 61 and 75.

In 75-ball bingo, a pre-determined winning pattern is announced at the beginning of each game. As numbers are called out at random, players manually daub their cards or if playing online, the numbers are daubed off automatically if the auto-play feature is on.

The first player to fill out a pre-determined winning pattern will win the game. At the early stages of the game’s history, players only needed complete a single line either down, diagonally or across in order to win the game. As the game evolved through the years, bingo organisers and bingo halls introduced more and more patterns and game types to 75-ball bingo, with more than 300 different patterns now being played.

What is 90-Ball Bingo?

90-ball bingo is the most common version of bingo played both online and offline in the UK. The game is played on a card with 27 squares, with three horizontal and nine vertical lines. Typically, players buy a strip of six cards/tickets per round.

  • The first column contains numbers 1 to 9.

  • The second column contains numbers 10 to 19.

  • The third column contains numbers 20 to 29 and so on.

In 90-ball bingo, players can win through three outcomes; one line, two lines and a full house. A one line win sees a player complete one horizontal line of numbers, a two line win means two lines have been completed and a full house is achieved when all of your numbers have been ticked off your card. The value of the prizes on offer increases as the different winning lines are made.
