Calling all ABBA fans! Get ready for an experience like no other as the legendary pop group have announced their Voyage Tour.
Yes, that’s right. Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad are back with their first concerts since 1980. But this time, they’ve jumped into the 21st century with truly unique digital shows.
If you’re a lover of the famous four, you’ll be Head Over Heels for their triumphant return. But when does the tour start? And how will digital shows work? Here’s everything we know so far…
Digital shows – what does it mean?
Just like a normal concert, you’ll go to the venue and see the group performing songs. But instead of actually being there, all four members will be on stage as virtual avatars – dubbed ‘ABBAtars’. According to ABBA, it’s a “revolutionary concert that blends the physical and digital worlds.”
With the help of 160 cameras, the show will see the Swedish quartet appear as they did in their heyday. They’ve captured “every mannerism, emotion and the soul of their beings”. So, it will look and feel like you’re watching them at their peak in the 1970s – sounds amazing!
Alongside the group will be a 10-piece live band created by Klaxons’ James Righton. This will feature 00s synth-pop sensation Little Boots, who will be on keyboard and will provide backing vocals.
There will be plenty of opportunities to experience the ABBA Voyage tour. The Swedish pop icons’ first concert will be in May 2022, with the tour running through to October 2022.
When is the ABBA Voyage tour?
Throughout the run, there will be shows every Monday, Thursday and Friday at 7:45pm. And for all you weekend lovers, there will be two shows every Saturday and Sunday – one at 3pm and one at 7:45pm. We’ll definitely be thanking ABBA for the music when this must-see event lights up Summer 2022.
Where are ABBA performing?
The concerts will all take place at a dazzling custom-built venue called the ABBA Arena. The arena will be located at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. Up to 3,000 ABBA fans will be able to get their boogie on inside the venue for each show.
Which songs will ABBA perform on the Voyage tour?
The full set list for the highly anticipated concerts hasn’t been released yet. But Björn Ulvaeus has confirmed that it’ll be a “greatest hits” show with 22 songs. That means you can expect to hear all the classics, from Knowing Me, Knowing You to Dancing Queen, SOS and The Winner Takes It All.
They’ll also perform a selection of tracks from their brand-new album Voyage (released 5th November 2021). Expect them to belt out hit singles I Still Have Faith in You and Don’t Shut Me Down. It’ll be like going to heaven for all you ABBA fanatics out there.
