Roulette is undoubtedly one of the most preferred casino games on the planet. Some people choose to play online roulette, while others prefer to play the legendary game in an offline setting. Either way, the common denominator where roulette is concerned is that it is always a game of chance. But that doesn’t prevent some players looking for possible ways to shift the odds in their favour.

You see, even in games of chance, there’s always a belief, rightly or wrongly, that there are tips, tricks and strategies to deploy that may increase the chances of winning. And as roulette is so popular, there’s been a determination to find something that works in this respect. Many have arrived at the same place, and that’s with what are known as hot and cold numbers. It’s one of the most prominent strategies of sorts on the roulette front. But does taking hot and cold numbers really give players an edge?

What are cold numbers?

In short, cold numbers are the numbers that haven’t appeared much across a set number of games of roulette. If a player is playing roulette at an online casino, they will usually see a record or be able to access a record of the numbers that have recently been winners.

It’s often a case of numbers being tracked across the last x00 spins, but it could be more than that, depending. Numbers that have appeared infrequently are, therefore, the cold numbers, and the belief is they’re the ones to avoid when placing wagers for the next round.

While many will suggest that avoiding cold numbers is the way to go because they’re simply not showing up and haven’t done so consistently. It’s also possible to look at cold numbers from the angle that if they haven’t been winners for a while, they must eventually come up trumps.

What are hot numbers?

Hot numbers are the complete opposite of cold numbers. Instead of not showing up, hot numbers have been winners consistently over X number of spins, which means that some will be of the belief that placing wagers on any “hot numbers” is more likely to result in success at the roulette table.

When the recent winning numbers are tracked, and some numbers have appeared more than once, or even more frequently depending on the sample size on display, they naturally stand out and catch the attention of players who are at the table.

But again, you’d also have to question how long a number stays “hot” for. Especially in a game like roulette where there’s usually 1-36 available as standard numbers as well as the zero. It also depends on the process used to determine how and when a number is hot.

Should I pay attention to them when placing my roulette bets?

The question a lot of people will have when playing online roulette games, such as Lightning Roulette, or playing roulette offline, is whether or not they should really be paying attention to hot and cold numbers. Do they matter in the grand scheme of things?

On the one hand, it’s a fact that roulette is a game of chance and that no two spins of the roulette wheel are connected. Therefore, hot and cold numbers shouldn’t have any influence on decision-making when it comes to placing wagers.

But there do remain a lot of roulette players who will stay across the data and take note of hot and cold numbers, structuring their bets around them in some way, shape or form. And maybe this is the best approach because a player still wouldn’t be giving too much or exclusive value to these numbers.

What are roulette warm numbers?

There also happens to be another option available to players where roulette is concerned, and it’s known as the warm zone or warm numbers. Consider it like this: cold numbers are at one end of the scale, and hot numbers are at the opposite end. The warm zone is in between.

Of course, there are naturally going to be more numbers in the warm zone, which is why some people choose to select numbers for their bet(s) from this area in particular, with the belief being that the next winning number is more likely to be warm than hot or cold.

Warm numbers are neither hot nor cold, so there is the potential for them to become hot or cold in the near future. Again, some would argue that this is more likely than a number staying hot or a number remaining cold.
