The original Rainbow Riches paytable has a small regular symbol set. Card ranks occupy the lower-paying positions, while the logo and Gold Coin offer higher ordinary awards.

The three bonus symbols work differently. Their scattered appearances trigger features, so you do not trace a normal winning line through them.

Use the current game paytable for the cash values at your selected stake. A table expressed against the line stake cannot be read as though every number multiplies the total spin stake.

For example, with a hypothetical 1p on each of 20 lines, the total cost is 20p. An award worth 100 times that 1p line stake would pay £1, rather than £20.

Gold Coin Wild

The Gold Coin can replace card symbols and the Rainbow Riches logo to complete or improve an ordinary winning combination.

It cannot replace the Leprechaun, Wishing Well or Pot of Gold. Those symbols must appear themselves to activate their respective features.

Matching Gold Coins can also produce a payout under the paytable, so the Wild has a paying role as well as a substitution role.

Rainbow Riches Logo

The logo is the highest-paying regular symbol below the Gold Coin Wild.

Two matching logos can qualify on a winning line, with larger combinations paying more. As with the cards, the combination starts on the leftmost reel and continues across neighbouring reels.

The original Rainbow Riches slot has three main bonuses: Road to Riches, Wishing Well and Pots of Gold. Each uses a different trigger and a different way of revealing its result.

Road to Riches

Three or more scattered Leprechaun symbols open Road to Riches.

The reels give way to a trail marked with prize values. Spin the feature wheel to determine how far the character moves along it. The wheel has numbered positions from one to six, plus a Collect position.

The feature continues until Collect appears or the character reaches the top of the trail. Your award is based on the final position reached, multiplied by the total stake from the triggering spin.

The values passed along the route are not all added together. If the final position shows 20x, a hypothetical 20p triggering stake produces a £4 feature award.

Under the classic rules, landing Collect on the first wheel spin can end the feature without an award. Triggering Road to Riches therefore does not guarantee a positive return.

Wishing Well

Three or more Wishing Well symbols anywhere on the reels trigger this picking feature.

Choose one of the wells shown on screen. It reveals a multiplier, which is applied to the total stake of the spin that opened the bonus.

There is less to follow here than on the Road to Riches trail. You make one selection and see the resulting award, without working through a sequence of wheel spins.

Choosing a particular well is not a skill that can be learned from previous rounds. Its position does not reveal the hidden prize before selection.

Pots of Gold

Pot of Gold symbols appear on reels two, three and four. Landing one on each of those middle reels activates the feature, regardless of their row positions.

Bronze, silver and gold pots move around the screen. When the animation stops, an arrow identifies the selected pot and its multiplier.

This selection is automatic in the classic game. You do not choose a pot in the same way that you choose a Wishing Well.

The revealed value is multiplied by the triggering spin’s total stake. Once the award has been displayed, the game returns to the ordinary reels.

The original Rainbow Riches does not have a standard Free Spins round. Its bonus gameplay comes from the trail, well selection and spinning pots.

That distinction is useful when browsing the series. Several later Rainbow Riches games include Free Spins, but a familiar leprechaun or rainbow does not mean they share the original’s rules.

Check the full game name when opening a title. Rainbow Riches, Rainbow Riches Megaways and Slingo Rainbow Riches are separate games with different ways of evaluating results.
