Ra doesn't arrive quietly here. Might of Ra gives Pragmatic Play's sun god a 6 reel, 4 row setup with 50 paylines, animal symbols and Wilds that can suddenly take over an entire reel with a multiplier attached. The bonus round adds 15 free spins and an Ankh collection system that gradually places more Wilds onto the reel strips. Ancient Egypt has seen plenty of slot adaptations, though this one leaves the dusty books on the shelf and lets Ra handle proceedings himself.
We got exactly what we expected from Pragmatic Play: a bright desert landscape with pyramids, blue skies filling the background, while Ra stands beside the reels looking every bit like someone accustomed to being worshipped. Pragmatic Play went for a more realistic approach than the cartoon approach we tend to run into in Egyptian slots.
The Ra Wild gets some of the strongest visual treatment. A regular Wild can suddenly spread across its entire reel, which gives the feature enough movement to stand out immediately. We also like that the soundtrack keeps the grand Egyptian mood without turning every spin into the ceremonial opening of a pyramid.
The lower values come from the five card symbols, followed by four animal icons with larger potential payouts. For these online slots, the structure is fairly traditional, though six matching symbols are possible thanks to the wider reel setup.
The regular Ra Wild can do more than substitute for other symbols. Whenever at least one Wild contributes to a win, there is a chance for that Wild to expand and cover the entire reel.
A x3 multiplier applies to winning combinations containing that expanded Wild. More than one Wild can potentially be involved, giving the feature most of its bite even before the free spins round starts.
Three or more Bonus symbols trigger 15 free spins. Special reel strips are used during the feature, and the round begins with 54 Wild symbols already distributed across those strips.
The base Wild mechanic remains active, so Wilds can still transform into full reel versions with the x3 multiplier.
Ankh symbols appear only during free spins and feed a collection meter beside the reels.
The feature begins at Level 1. Collecting 5 Ankhs reaches Level 2 and adds 12 more Wilds to the reel strips. Reaching 10 Ankhs activates Level 3 with another 12 Wilds added. At 15 or more Ankhs, Level 4 adds a further 24 Wild symbols.
That progression doesn't change the grid itself. Instead, the reel strips become increasingly populated with Wilds as the collection grows.
Bonus symbols can also appear during the feature. Landing 2 Bonus symbols adds 3 free spins, 3 Bonus symbols add 6 and 4 Bonus symbols add 9.
The retrigger therefore gives the Ankh meter more time to progress, which becomes especially relevant if the round is approaching one of the higher collection levels.
By all accounts, Might of Ra is a pretty standard release. It works around 6 reels, 4 rows and 50 fixed paylines, while regular wins begin on the leftmost reel and continue across adjacent reels from left to right.
Three matching symbols are just enough for a standard combination, while the wider grid allows up to 6 matching symbols to land across a single line. The bonus symbols we mentioned work differently, being restricted to the middle 4 reels.
The main mechanical twist comes from the Wild. Any Ra Wild involved in a win can potentially turn its complete reel Wild and attach a x3 multiplier to combinations using that symbol.
During free spins, the same 6 by 4 structure remains, but special reel strips come into use. More Wilds are added to those strips as Ankhs are collected, so the underlying grid stays familiar while the symbol distribution changes as the round progresses.
A few other titles come close through their Egyptian settings, expanding symbols or bonus progression.
We think Might of Ra works best when the full reel Wild feature starts interrupting what initially looks like a fairly conventional 50 line slot. The base rules are easy to follow, but that random transformation gives ordinary wins the potential to change shape very quickly.
The free spins round has the stronger idea. Collecting Ankhs doesn't create a completely new mechanic, but gradually adding more Wilds to the reel strips gives the bonus a clear sense of progress. We prefer that to a round where nothing really changes after spin one.
There are plenty of Egyptian online casino games, so the theme alone isn't doing much heavy lifting here. For us, the Wild system and Ankh progression are what make Might of Ra worth separating from the rest of the pyramid crowd.
