Toro’s back, but he’s traded Spanish streets for ancient Egyptian ruins in Book of Toro, the latest addition to ELK Studios’ Wild Toro series. If the phrase “book slot” makes you think of the same old Egyptian template, think again — this one brings a matador twist. Instead of just relying on standard free spins and expanding symbols, ELK has blended in its signature Toro mechanics, making for a hybrid experience that stands out from the crowd.
Underneath the thematic mash-up is a 5-reel, 3-row setup with 10 paylines — a classic “book” slot layout that keeps things familiar while leaving room for some surprises. The bet range starts at 0.20 per spin, and while the base game might seem straightforward, the real action kicks in with walking wilds, mummy respins, and up to three expanding symbols during free spins.
ELK Studios isn’t new to mixing up slot mechanics. Before Book of Toro, they expanded the Wild Toro universe with Wild Toro 2, bringing in bigger reels and more special features. They’ve also had success with the Gold series, which has its own take on feature-packed gameplay. Book of Toro takes a bit from both, creating a game that’s part book slot, part Wild Toro sequel.
Here’s how you can get started and play Book of Toro for yourself:
If you aren't already registered, click on the green 'Sign Up' button in the top right corner and fill in the required fields. You can then verify your account and make a deposit if you want to play Book of Toro with real funds.
The paytable leans heavily on the Egyptian theme, but ELK adds a bit of personality with custom-styled icons. The matador makes a rare appearance, serving as the highest-paying symbol, while scarabs, jewellery, and the Eye of Horus round out the premium tier. The 10-A card royals bring in the lower payouts. A complete paytable is given below:
Symbol | Payout for 3, 4, and 5 of a kind |
10 | 0.75x, 2.50x, 5x |
J | 0.75x, 3x, 7.50x |
Q | 0.75x, 3.50x, 10x |
K | 1x, 4x, 12x |
A | 1x, 5x, 15x |
Scarab | 0.50x, 2x, 7.50x, 20x |
Falcon | 0.50x, 3x, 10x, 30x |
Eye of Horus | 0.50x, 4x, 15x, 40x |
Explorer | 1x, 10x, 50x, 250x |
Toro isn’t just decoration — he’s an active walking wild that only lands on the last reel. Once he appears, he moves one reel to the left per spin, generating respins along the way. If a mummy symbol is on the screen at the same time, Toro charges through the reels, leaving behind wilds in his wake.
If two or more mummy symbols land on the reels, they lock into place and trigger a respin. If more mummies appear, additional respins are awarded. And if Toro lands during this feature, Toro Goes Wild kicks in, clearing out the mummies and potentially adding even more wilds.
The book symbol acts as both the wild and scatter, and landing 3, 4, or 5 of them awards 10, 15, or 20 free spins. Before the feature begins, one symbol is randomly selected as an expanding symbol, which can cover entire reels and pay from any position. Retriggering the feature could add more free spins and select up to three different expanding symbols at once.
In a twist, Toro can substitute for expanding symbols — if he lands on the reels during free spins, he still activates the Toro Goes Wild feature, while also counting as part of the expanding win conditions.
ELK’s X-iter feature lets players buy into different bonus rounds for an extra cost, offering options such as:
Book of Toro isn't just another "Book of... slot" — it blends expanding symbols with ELK's signature Wild Toro mechanics. If you like the mix of classic book slot features with unique extras, you might also enjoy Book of Aladdin or Book of Sam, another couple of similar slot games with a twist.
