Money Minecarts Slot Game Review

Mining for gems sounds demanding enough before supernatural minecarts start interfering with the accounting. Money Minecarts from Iron Dog Studio uses a 5x3 grid with 25 fixed winlines, backed by Wilds, Free Spins and a Hold & Win feature built around cash values and coloured Coins. Blue, Purple and Red Coins each change the board differently, while the Coin Shower can add another six Coins at once. We suspect the mine's health and safety officer has already resigned.

Theme & Graphic

Money Minecarts heads underground, surrounding the reels with dark rock, glowing crystals and mining equipment. The lower symbols are gemstone versions of J, Q, K and A, while axes, lanterns, gold filled pans and a cheerful miner occupy the higher end. Bright blue, purple, red and green accents stop the cavern setting from becoming visually flat.

The design fits comfortably among mining themed online slots, although the coloured Coin system gives the feature graphics more personality than the regular reel symbols. Wilds use crystalline artwork, while the special Coins are immediately distinguishable by colour. We also like how the Hold & Win board strips away ordinary reel activity and lets the glowing Coins take over. Apparently a regular minecart carrying rocks was considered insufficiently ambitious.

Payout Table

The gemstone card symbols share the lowest regular values, followed by the axe, lantern and gold pan. The miner sits at the top of the standard paytable.

  • Wild: The crystal Wild can appear on all five reels and substitutes for regular paying symbols. Three, four or five Wilds carry potential payouts of 1.00, 2.50 and 10.00.
  • 2x Wild: This version appears only during Free Spins and substitutes for regular symbols. Any qualifying winline containing a 2x Wild receives an x2 multiplier, with several 2x Wilds multiplying one another.
  • Hold & Win Coin: Six or more qualifying Coins trigger Hold & Win. Standard Gold Coins can display values from x1 to x12 of the current bet.
  • Blue Coin: During Hold & Win, the Blue Coin doubles all other cash values currently visible before changing into a random cash value of its own.
  • Purple Coin: The Purple Coin can become either a cash value or a potential Mini, Minor or Major Prize Coin.
  • Red Coin: The Red Coin totals all current cash values on the board and then displays that combined amount as its own value.
  • Scatter: Three Scatters anywhere on the grid trigger Free Spins. Scatters can also add more spins while the feature is already active.

Bonus Features

Hold & Win

Six or more Hold & Win symbols activate the feature. All triggering Coins remain locked in place, regular winlines are switched off and the round begins with 3 respins. At least one coloured Coin is present when the feature starts.

Every new symbol resets the respin counter to 3. The sequence ends when no respins remain or every grid position has been filled.

Only coloured Coins that appeared on the triggering board remain available during that particular feature. This matters because Blue, Purple and Red Coins each apply a different effect whenever they land.

A completely filled board also produces the potential Mega Prize.

Blue, Purple and Red Coins

The three coloured Coins make Hold & Win considerably less predictable than a standard cash symbol respin round.

A Blue Coin doubles all other cash values currently showing before turning into a random cash value. The Purple Coin changes into either a cash amount or one of the available Mini, Minor or Major Prize Coins.

The Red Coin works differently again. Every cash value currently visible is added together, and that total becomes the Red Coin's own displayed value.

More than one coloured Coin can therefore affect the same feature when the necessary colours were present on the trigger.

Coin Shower

Coin Shower can activate randomly during an eligible base game spin. When triggered, exactly six Coins are showered onto the board.

The mechanic only activates when another feature state isn't already being triggered, so Coin Shower functions as a separate way of changing the Coin count rather than interrupting another bonus sequence.

Free Spins

Three Scatter symbols anywhere on the board activate 8 Free Spins. The regular 5x3 setup and 25 winlines remain active, but Wild behaviour changes during the feature.

Special 2x Wilds can appear across all five reels. Every 2x Wild participating in a potential line payout doubles that result, and several Wild multipliers on the same line combine multiplicatively.

Additional Scatters can extend the round, and Hold & Win can still activate during Free Spins. That keeps both of the game's main bonus systems connected rather than isolating them from one another.

Spin Mechanics

Money Minecarts uses 5 reels, 3 rows and 25 fixed winlines running from left to right. Regular potential payouts require matching symbols on consecutive reels beginning with reel 1.

Wilds can appear anywhere on the grid and replace standard symbols. Special symbols follow their own rules and interrupt Wild sequences where applicable, so line evaluation then follows the normal paytable.

The Hold & Win feature changes the structure entirely. Winlines disappear, landed Coins stay fixed and every new symbol refreshes the 3 respins. Free Spins keep the standard reel grid but introduce 2x Wilds and allow the cash feature to trigger during the round.

Similar Slots

Across online casinos, these three previously reviewed titles make sensible comparisons through respins, cash values and collection based mechanics.

  • Sleeping Dragon Ultra Dark: Money symbols lock during a respin feature, giving both games a similar hold style structure with potential cash values.
  • Bison Moon: Thunder Charge: Cash carrying Moon symbols lead into a respin board where new symbols remain in place and extend the feature.
  • Meerkat Mayhem Rapid Fire: Collect symbols and Cash Prize mechanics make this another useful comparison for feature systems built around visible cash values.

Heart Bingo's Opinion

Money Minecarts has a familiar Hold & Win foundation, but the three coloured Coins give the feature more personality than simply filling empty spaces with numbers. We particularly like the Blue Coin because doubling the existing board before becoming another cash value can noticeably change the shape of a round. The Red Coin's total collection mechanic is similarly easy to understand without feeling redundant.

Free Spins are simpler, although multiplicative 2x Wilds give the feature a clear distinction from the base game. Our main criticism is that the mining theme itself doesn't do anything especially unexpected. Crystals, axes and lanterns have been down this shaft before.

Mechanically, though, the coloured Coins make the trip more interesting. Fans of respins and cash collection features have the clearest reason to keep an eye on this mine.
