It’s Christmas time! Chilly weather is here, long nights are drawing in and the tinsel is out in full force. At this time of the year, nothing beats grabbing a hot chocolate, curling up on the sofa and watching a festive rom-com with loved ones. But we all face that same problem – deciding which film to watch.
Loads of Christmassy films are available, from magical classics like Love Actually to more recent hits such as Paul Feig’s Last Christmas. You can spend hours scrolling through, trying to choose which one to put on. That’s why we’ve put together a list of nine feel-good rom-coms that you should watch during the holiday season.
1. Love Actually (2003)

This Richard Curtis directed film is a true Christmas classic. Billed as “the ultimate romantic comedy”, it follows the love stories of many different characters in London during the holiday period. You’ll be hooked to this irresistible festive flick, which features an all-star cast including Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson and Keira Knightley.
2. Last Holiday (2006)

Last Holiday is a film that will truly get you right in the feels. Queen Latifah plays Georgia Byrd, an employee at a New Orleans department store diagnosed with a terminal illness at Christmas. She chooses to make the most of the time she has left, but can she attract the attention of her long-time crush, Sean?
3. Last Christmas (2019)

A Christmas film based on the music of George Michael. What more could you want? Last Christmas stars Emilia Clarke as Kate, an aspiring singer stuck in a job as a Christmas store elf. She meets Tom, a handsome but mysterious man who she soon falls for. But is he too good to be true?
4. Four Christmases (2008)

Starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon, Four Christmases is a fantastic festive caper. It follows Brad and Kate, a couple who usually do everything to avoid joining their family for Christmas. But in their third holiday season together, they’re forced to visit all four divorced parents on Christmas Day!
5. Elf (2003)

An iconic festive movie, Elf tells the story of Buddy (Will Ferrell), a human raised among Santa’s elves. He soon heads to New York to find his biological father, where he becomes besotted with store worker Jovie (Zooey Deschanel). This Christmas classic features a bundle of laugh out loud moments, as well as a heart-warming romantic edge. It’s one that the whole family will enjoy!
6. Serendipity (2001)

A Christmas film all about destiny. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale star as two people who meet when they try to buy the same pair of gloves. After a so-called bad omen, they go their separate ways. But will fate bring them back together? You’ll be rooting for the pair in this cute rom-com, which is set during the holiday season in New York City.
7. The Holiday (2006)

Directed by Nancy Meyers, The Holiday is a Christmas classic. It follows two women, one from London and one from LA, who switch homes to get away from their love troubles over the festive season. Will they find romance on opposite sides of the pond? With a stacked cast including Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black, this is a real festive treat!
8. Holidate (2020)

A Netflix original, Holidate is a feel-good Christmas hit from the modern-day. It follows Sloane and Jackson, two people who hate Christmas time due to being single. They agree to start up a platonic relationship, but will it lead to something more? The film stars the brilliant Emma Roberts alongside Aussie Luke Bracey.
9. While You Were Sleeping (1995)

Starring the always fantastic Sandra Bullock, While You Were Sleeping is a charming festive tale. It tells the story of Lucy, a lonely fare token collector with a major crush on dashing commuter Peter. After saving his life on Christmas Day, she’s mistaken as his fiancée while he’s in a coma. One thing leads to another, and she ends up falling in love with his brother, Jack!
