Play Get Kraken

A treasure-hunting Kraken with a surprisingly organised progression system sits at the centre of Get Kraken, an underwater slot from Reflex Gaming. The game uses a 5x3 setup with 40 paylines, but the real focus is on collecting coins and gems whenever the Kraken appears. Persistent unlocks add Boost and Respin versions of the creature, while treasure chests can open into free spins. Apparently, even sea monsters appreciate a well-maintained rewards programme. 

Get Kraken swaps the usual cheerful fishing boat for the ocean floor, surrounding the reels with blue-green water, rocks, sea plants and shafts of sunlight coming from above. It’s still firmly within the fishing and underwater branch of online slots, but the Kraken gives the setting a little more personality than another fisherman waiting patiently beside a pile of cash symbols. 

The creature itself is cartoonish rather than threatening, with exaggerated expressions and bubbles used throughout the different collector states. Treasure chests, coins, gems, anchors and maps keep the visuals firmly tied to buried riches. It’s bright and readable without turning the seabed into a fluorescent aquarium, while the persistent chest and Kraken progress gives the interface something useful to display outside the reels. 

Regular wins are formed from left to right across adjacent reels. The highest-paying regular symbol is the barrel of gold, worth 12.5x the bet for five matching symbols. Fishing gear and treasure items make up the middle of the table, while K, Q, J and 10 sit at the lower end. 

• Kraken: Acts as a wild and substitutes for regular symbols. It also functions as the collector whenever coins or gems land alongside it. 
• Coins: Carry values of 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, 2x or 2.5x the base bet. 
• Green Gem: Awards the 5x Mini Pot when collected by a Kraken. 
• Blue Gem: Awards the 15x Minor Pot when collected.

Kraken Collection 

The standard Kraken can appear in the central reel position and collects the values of any coins or gems that land alongside it. Kraken appearances also count towards permanent unlocks, so the game gradually adds stronger versions of the collector rather than resetting the entire system after every session. 

Once unlocked, these additional Kraken types remain available even after the game is closed. 

Boost Kraken 

Landing five Krakens unlocks the Boost Kraken, identified by green bubbles. When this version appears alongside coins or gems, one or more of those symbols can be upgraded. 

A coin struck by the Boost effect becomes a gem, while an existing gem can be raised to a higher gem tier. Since the gem colours correspond to fixed pot values, the feature can materially change the value of a collection rather than simply adding another small cash symbol. 

Respin Kraken 

After a further 15 Kraken appearances, the Respin Kraken becomes available. Red bubbles distinguish this version from the standard and Boost variants. 

When coins or gems land with the Respin Kraken, those prize symbols lock in position while the remaining reels respin. New coins and gems can be added during the sequence, and the process continues until the available positions are filled or a respin fails to introduce another prize symbol. The accumulated coins and gems are then collected. 

Treasure Chests 

Two treasure chests sit above the reels and receive progress whenever a Kraken lands. Either chest, or both, may grow, and each has a chance to open after receiving progress. Importantly, the visual size of a chest does not affect its actual chance of opening. 

A standard treasure chest awards 6 free spins, while a golden chest awards 12. After opening, the chest returns to its smallest size and may also change colour. Its current size persists when the bet is changed and after leaving the game. 

Free Spins 

Free spins begin when one of the treasure chests opens. The Kraken responsible for triggering the round is locked in place, while its bubble colour can change between spins to any Kraken variant already unlocked in the base game. 

The chests continue receiving progress throughout the feature, meaning they can open again and award additional free spins. Once the round ends, whatever chest progress has been built remains in place for the following base-game session. 

That persistent structure is one of the more distinctive details here and separates Get Kraken from many collection games found at an online casino, where progress often disappears as soon as a feature ends. 

Reel Modifiers 

Get Kraken can also alter individual spins without requiring a formal bonus trigger. At the beginning of a spin, the Kraken may fire bubbles across the reels, guaranteeing that a Kraken lands together with coins or gems. 

At the end of a spin, another modifier may target the central reel and nudge it upward or downward until a Kraken comes into view. Both modifiers are essentially shortcuts into the collector mechanic, which is sensible considering just how much of the game depends on that purple sea creature showing up at the right time.

Get Kraken uses five reels, three rows and 40 fixed paylines. Winning combinations start from the leftmost reel and continue across adjacent reels, with separate winning lines added together. Only the highest award is counted for each individual winning combination. 

The game’s structure is relatively conventional until the centre reel enters the picture. Kraken symbols are restricted to this area, making the middle of the grid the focal point for most feature activity. Coins and gems have no need to form standard payline combinations when they’re collected; their attached values become relevant when a Kraken appears alongside them. 

Progress is also unusually persistent. Unlocked Krakens and treasure-chest states remain saved after leaving the game, so repeated sessions can begin with more functionality available than the first one did. 

A few games swim in roughly the same waters, although the exact mix of persistent Kraken upgrades and treasure chests is less common.

The Boost and Respin Krakens are the strongest part of the design because unlocking them actually changes what future Kraken appearances can do. The persistent treasure chests work on the same principle. We like that progress can survive beyond a single feature rather than being ceremonially flushed down the drain every time the reels reset. 

The potential ceiling of 8,666x the bet is substantial, although that figure says little about how any individual session will behave. What matters more to us is that the slot has a coherent idea and sticks with it. The underwater theme is hardly unexplored territory, but the evolving collector makes Get Kraken a little less interchangeable than the average fishing-and-cash-symbol game.
